Experience old Outer Banks charm in Historic Downtown Manteo at the Tranquil House Inn. The Tranquil House Inn sits overlooking Shallowbag Bay, right on the boardwalk in downtown Manteo. The Inn boasts 25 rooms and suites, the 1587 Restaurant for fine dining, and beautiful views all around to catch the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.
Ashley Vaught, General Manager at the Tranquil House Inn, was kind enough to answer a few questions about the Inn and how they can accommodate weddings here on the Outer Banks. The Tranquil House Inn was built in 1988; the design was inspired by the traditional 19th Century NC Beach Motels.
How long have you been involved in accommodating weddings on the Outer Banks?
I have been fortunate to be working in the hospitality industry on the Outer Banks for 16 years.
What makes the Outer Banks special to you?
The Outer Banks is a small community with a hometown feel. A place where time moves slower and a place where you can feel the healing powers of the salt air and sea.
Do you have any advice for a couple booking? Are there any specials for weddings?
Two pieces of advice- 1 The weather forecast is not a guarantee. 2- Be present in the moment- the time will fly. Tranquil House Inn does offer various promotions for selling out the Inn (25 Rooms); keep in mind our Lounge can also be used for entertaining your guests.
What trends are you most excited to see in upcoming weddings?
Excited to see sustainability and nature becoming a certain focus in design; from outdoor receptions, replacing cut flowers with rooted plants, repurposing furniture that has family ties. Eager to also see the traditional lines of wedding roles blur as brides and groom’s personality show through; from who they select to stand by their side to who walks down the aisle.
What makes the Tranquil House Inn different from other accommodations on the Outer Banks?
We don’t try to compete with the environment at the Tranquil House, we are here to compliment it. The Inn is an intimate setting; this allows us to truly know our guests. We are able to create guest itineraries that are personalized based on what brings them to the Outer Banks. Rich in History, Roanoke Island offers a different experience, one that is off the beaten path full of exploration and adventure.
What is your favorite part of your job and business?
Our guests; discovering why they selected the Outer Banks as their place of solitude. Making connections that last for years; being fortunate enough to be a part of their ‘happy place’ and share in their families memories.
