The process is lengthy, but in the end, we always strive to select weddings that encapsulate every part of the Outer Banks, and that feature the hard-work and dedication of our vendors. The cover is always chosen on a points scoring system, and based on what we feel best suits the issue and reflects the feeling of a true Outer Banks wedding.
In the Fall, we allow all of our vendors to submit weddings to be considered for the upcoming issue. At the same time, options for the cover can be submitted as well. Every submission must include all of the featured vendors that were a part of that wedding. In most years, submissions come in until the very last minute. After the submission window closes, contact sheets containing select photos from the wedding are compiled and arranged into anonymous folders for our Board of Directors to vote on. At the same time, all of the submissions for the cover are presented to be voted on anonymously.
For the 2022 issue of Outer Banks Weddings, there were a total of 107 Real Weddings and 381 covers to choose from!
Since we have nine members on our Board of Directors, Real Wedding submissions that receive eight or nine votes are automatically chosen to be featured in the magazine. We then go through each submission that follows to choose the weddings that show off all of the different places and ways in which couples say I Do on the Outer Banks.
The cover options then go through another round of anonymous voting, this time with the masthead, and the final cover is finally chosen.
The 2022 issue of Outer Banks Weddings will be first available at the 2022 Outer Banks Wedding Weekend + Expo on March 5th and 6th. Get tickets and learn more at obxwa.com/expo. View the digital 2021 issue here.
